How would you describe your role within Audentio?
I work as a front-end developer for Audentio, and I’d say my role is a mix of getting to transform the awesome designs that we create into functioning sites, working with Javascript development (mainly React), and keeping in mind the small details that go into creating the best experience for users.
What is your favorite part of your job or Audentio?
My favorite part of the job definitely has to be the ever-changing nature of the job. There are always new challenges to solve which leads to a constant state of learning, and there’s not really anything feeling of monotony. Plus being able to express some creativity is a nice bonus.
What inspired you to pursue a career in development?
I actually started development back in my high school days, and would work on projects in my free time. It wasn’t until after I graduated from university with a degree in materials engineering that I realized I really didn’t want to go into that field. I had this lightbulb moment where I thought, why did I just spend that last five years doing that when I loved development the whole time? Which brought me here :)
What’s the best piece of advice you could offer to someone looking to enter your role?
Honestly, you just have to want it and be willing to go get what you want. Take classes, read books, self-teach through YouTube videos - however you learn best to become up to date with trending development stacks, and hopefully find that area that you’re passionate about. Once you find that, the rest will come naturally.
What do you like to do for fun (outside of working at Audentio)?
I love backpacking and camping and try to go on small trips a few times a year, but also really just enjoy anything outdoors (soccer and tennis being my favorites). I also dabble in piano, guitar, painting, and side-projects whenever I get the chance. Overall though, I’d say cooking is actually of my most consistent and favorite hobbies - it’s a perfect mix between creativity, science, and getting to eat (and butcher) some awesome food.
